Day 17 : Vizzavona - Cascade des Anglais

We had been told about the Corsica train, and according to the guide, it was something you must do. Therefore, we took it to Ajaccio.
If you go to the station outside open hours, you will find nobody, not even in the ticket office, it is deserted.
The station awakes and frenzy bustles about the trains during departure. A long line of passengers fill up the railway station. And don't worry, they sell more tickets than the number of seats, you can easily take on board.
The trains have only two carriages. So the later you get onto the train, the less chance you will find a seat.

The run between Ajaccio and Vizzavona lasted one hour. I advise you to keep an eye on the train stops, because some of them are optional. You must inform the ticket collector if you have to get off the optional stops. Otherwise, it will continue to run.
There wasn’t any soft voice indicating your location, or for the next stop, and no dining car. But you've got toilet!

Few trains run in Corsica. In our case we arrived in Vizzavona at 10 o'clock. The opportunities to go back to Ajaccio were limited: 12:25pm or 7:56pm. So you've got a lot of time to enjoy a walk.

Vizzavona is a hamlet of 50 souls, lost in mountains at 900 meters high. Many hikers go there. In fact, many hiking trails start from this very village, including the GR20.

Vizzavona is tiny, but there are three hotels, one inn and two bars all the same.

We hit the road to the Cascade des Anglais (The Waterfall of the English), 1’112 meters high. The trail was very well posted with signs that indicated where to go, so it was impossible to get lost.

The trail goes through the forest of Vizzavona, so it is relatively shady and being in a higher altitude, there is a chill in the air. Remember to wear layers.

There is a one hour stroll before discovering the Cascade des Anglais. I was expecting much more water than what I saw. It was already September, but sadly during the summer there had been a drought. Next to the waterfall, there was a chalet with a bar inside.
From there you can turn left towards the Vizzavona pass. On the trail before the pass you will find a really nice tree climbing course. We did it for 24€ for 4 hours. There were 13 different courses with several levels of difficulty: a Tyrolean traverse rope of 100m, a Tarzan jumping, a monkey bridge, a net...

At the top of the Vizzavona pass there is a road and an inn where you can take a break.

It is really worth taking the train ride. The landscapes are surprising. However, if you travel a lot by car on the island, you can see the same.
