Day 16 : Ajaccio (Aiacciu)

The campsite manager had advised us to park our car on a charged parking area, because it was difficult to find a parking space. With a stroke of luck, we found a free parking lot at 15 – 20 minutes from the city centre.

Everyday there is a market of local products and food (butcher stall, cooked pork meats, honey, jam...) at square Campinchi.

The beach downtown Ajaccio isn't very pleasant; there is little sand and the road overhangs it.

We visited Bonaparte's house (7€ with a headset, free for people under 26): quite interesting, but the visit could be better if they had made a movie about Napoleon's life. The visit is based on the history of the house.

From Ajaccio, you can go (heading West) to the Bloody Islands (Les Îles Sanguinaires). At the very end of the road, there's a huge parking lot. From there, a trail leads towards the Tower of Parata, which seems to be thrown over the sea.

You can go around the peninsula and reach the Genoese Tower at 55 metres high. Far away, you can catch a glimpse of the Bloody Islands.
