Day 15: The Beach of Grand Capo (Ajaccio)

Campsite des Mimosas (Location: Route d'Atala, 20090 Ajaccio) We didn't have the choice for the site, but there was nobody there and we were lucky: our site was well defined with a wooden table, just for us.

The toilet blocks are ok. On the other hand there is no bar or room to spend the evening. There is a Wifi paid zone on the outskirts of the campsite.

We went to the beach of Grand Capo, at the North of Ajaccio, accessible within 30 min. It's a quiet beach because it is remote. The road leading to the beach is potholed.

We had been told about the Eye of St Lucy, and according to different forums, we could find some on this very beach.

The Eye of St Lucy is the name, given by a fisherman, to the operculum of a sea snail foud in the Mediterranean waters. It's still felt to be such a protection, especially for eyesight. (The Eyes of St Lucy are everywhere, you will inevitably see them in many souvenir or jewelry stores).

Remember: many stores sell Eyes of Shiva, that are collected in the Pacific ocean. The difference between the Eye of Shiva and the Eye of Saint Lucy is the colour of the back operculum: blue for Shiva and red for St Lucy. Comment: the eye of Shiva is more bigger than the Eye of Saint Lucy.

After two hours of excavation, we found only 3 little Eyes of St Lucy (55mm for the biggest).
